    Thank you for sharing your journey. The injury is devastating for anyone who likes being active, but there is hope. I ruptured my left Achilles tendon 5 days before my 49th birthday this year in late March. I was playing my first city league game (or full court game of any type) since before Covid. I had been working out and felt good about getting out there and even showed up 30 minutes early to warm up properly. Unfortunately, when I walked in the gym the game that was going on needed an extra player and in my excitement to get back on the court, I said "yes," and proceeded to warm up for about 4 minutes. I made it up and down the court a couple times before finally getting my hands on the ball for the first time. I made 2 dribbles to my right, passed the ball to someone in the post, then pushed off my left foot fairly lightly to cut across the lane. That's when I felt the "pop" and I knew exactly what I had done. I was hyper-aware that this injury could happen to someone my age - I wish that hyper-awareness had translated to hyper-diligence in warming up properly. I was devastated when it happened and in the week after. I was able to see my surgeon a few days after the injury. He confirmed the rupture and scheduled the surgery for 1 week later on April 2nd. I was in a splint for 2 weeks, then received my boot. I started light physical therapy in May and was out of the boot by the end of May. Overall, my PT has been going very well and I was able to start doing very light basketball workouts at the and of July. I still can't sprint or explode off that one foot yet (end of August now), but I'm jumping pretty well off two feet, my balance is great, and I can jog at a decent pace. The Summer turned out to not be a complete loss. I still have a long way to go but there is hope for people with this injury, even older athletes like me. Consistency is key. Listen to your body and rest when needed, but push as time and your body allow.

    • @HelloImAlexa
      @HelloImAlexa 2 дня назад

      And thank you so much for sharing your story! It really can feel so heartbreaking. Good reminders to take your time getting warmed up, especially as you get older. Hope the rest of your recovery goes smoothly!

      Glad to hear it! I really liked using the platform shoes. From what I remembered, I used platform shoes out and about the evenUP at home. We usually do shoes off at home so it helped kinda keep dirt out a bit, although I think I still like wiped down my boot every time 😅

I am wearing shoes with 10mm Drop to exercise (Adidas Ultraboost 22) and not soft. No 1 cm wedge inside as my PT says i must try to keep ideal ROM on my operated ankle. I have better feelings with harder and higher heel's shoes. May i ask you which kind of shoes were giving you better comfort at that stage of rehab? Well, I played basketball every day in my 20s and 30s ... but I waited until two weeks ago (at age 66) to tear my Achilles. Having been severely injured in the military many years ago, the recovery timeline for this doesn't necessarily frighten me. But I am concerned about not being able to heal properly at my age. I just got my cast off and stitches out today, 13 days after surgery, and I am shocked at how much the calf muscle looks atrophied already.

    Just ruptured my right Achilles July 6th, getting surgery this Wednesday. Definitely not looking forward to months off my bikes. Thanks for putting this video together. Helps knowing what is to come.

    (1) How do I add the list of guests I am inviting? (2) Does the website allow me to import names and emails from Google contacts? (3) does the website track RSVPs and tell me who has accepted and who has not?

    These videos are so helpful, thank you for creating all of them! I’m 8 days post-op and go in 6 days to go from cast to boot. The cast has been SO heavy and uncomfortable, does the boot feel more comfortable? I am just curious if the boot will be as uncomfortable when I am not elevated as this heavy cast is. Thanks!

      You're so welcome!! I personally thought the boot was way more comfortable but I also was in like a "half-cast" -- just nicer to be able to take off to shower and stretch as well. Hope your recovery is going well!
